Abstract backgrounds offer a great way to 'upgrade' your graphics without taking up too much time or money. If you create your own abstract images you will have control over the design and what images you work with, if you purchase your abstracts directly from the owner of the image you can often make small revisions to the file, again tailoring this to your product.
The web has seen an influx in the offering of abstract backgrounds, some more accomplished than others. Graphics created using Photoshop and Illustrator are generally of a much higher quality then those offered by Stock Photo Sites, which is particularly important should the client wish to replicate or reproduce the work elsewhere i.e. printing of the graphic.
